The Stone Roses - 'The Stone Roses'

added 02 July 2009 at 14.57

Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni. The men that put Manchester back on the map as the 80s turned to 90s.

One of the most significant albums in what was to become the "Madchester" scene, the Roses' debut owes as much to late 60s psychedelia as it does to the world of clubland. Giving their patented indie jingle-jangle a shuffling, funky rhythm, John Squire became the last great guitar hero of the 80s and pointed the way to Britpop. Without this record, there'd be no Oasis, no Kasabian... no nothing, really.
Top tune: 'I Wanna Be Adored'
