New Order - 'Technique'

The ghost of Joy Division is finally laid to rest as The Other Three (plus Gillian) head off to the party island.
With 1989's 'Technique', New Order completed the transition from the leaders of dour post-punk indie to fully-fleged dancefloor ravers. This was helped by the fact that the follow-up to 1986's 'Brotherhood' was partly recorded in Ibiza, where the acid house scene was well and truly kicking in. You can hear the influence in the very grooves of the record - the opener 'Fine Time' is the nearest the band ever got to aciiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeed, 'Mr Disco' is a tale of holiday romance gone wrong and 'Round & Round' is designed for clubbing action. You also get some finely-crafted NO guitar songs, including the killer two-shot at the climax: 'Vanishing Point' and 'Dream Attack'.
Top tune: 'Round & Round'
