Plant-less Zep To Tour And Record

Led Zeppelin’s manager speaks about the 70s rock behemoths’ future without Robert Plant. There’s no news on a replacement though.

Peter Mensch, Led Zeppelin’s manager, has said that Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham are likely to record and tour with a new singer. Mensch told the BBC’s 6music,

“People don’t really understand it. Jimmy Page has been playing guitar professionally since he was 16 years old. Jimmy Page likes being a musician. That’s what he does! He doesn’t want to be a race car driver or a solicitor.

“They decided that if they could find a singer that they thought would fit their bill – whatever their bill was at this stage in their career – that they’d make a record and go on tour… That’s what Jimmy Page does”.

Peter Mensch, who’s Q Prime stable also includes Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica, refused to comment on the rumours surrounding a replacement for singer Robert Plant. Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Alterbridge’s Myles Kennedy were thought to be in the frame

“I can’t comment on any rumours right now,” said the manager, “It’s gonna be a long and difficult process. And we’re not soliciting people! So don’t call me about it!”

As previously reported, Q Prime have already stated that the band, without Robert Plant, would not be working under the Led Zeppelin moniker.

So what do you think? Is it a good idea? Got any thoughts on names? Let us know below...

  1. Pleeeease lemme have it boyz! Page and JPJones were always the true source for me- any future magic will come from their potential. Zep died with Bonzo, all due respect, I don't need Plant now, neither does Jimmy.

  6. The maestro has a right to play, even to play zep songs without robert, but to call it led zeppelin would be nothing short of outright offensive, I don't care WHO they get, it's NOT zeppelin and anybody knows that.
Thanks for being the super-ultimate cock-block of all time robert. Jerk.

  7. I'd love to see JP and JPJ and Jason tour, but not as Zeppelin. It would be a mistake. There is something sacred about Led Zeppelin, and to have another singer replace Plant under the Zeppelin sign would cheapin the legacy. Most Zep fans feel the same. I think that if they must tour as Zep, then pull in vocalists of the stature of Paul Rogers or even Purple's Ian Gillan. You need the best, so why not go out with the best?

  9. Klaus Meine from the scorpions. I think would make a great replacement singer for Zeppelin Tour.

  10. Finally, someone speaking the truth about this! All the press hysteria about LZ replacing Robert Plant has been ridiculous. 1. They never said they were to use the name Led Zeppelin. 2. Robert Plant de-facto quit the band in Sept 2008 when he announced he wouldn't tour or record with Led Zeppelin. Why does that mean Jimmy, John Paul and Jason must stop playing music together. It's not their fault Plant wants to play country music instead of rock and roll!
