Flaming Lips Supply Oklahoma’s Official Song

Oklahoma citizens choose ‘Do You Realize??’ as the state’s official song from a list of 454 nominated tunes.

After an intensive voting procedure, citizens of US state Oklahoma have chosen The Flaming Lips’ ‘Do You Realize??’ as their official rock song. Taken from their tenth album ‘Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots’, the song edged out a list of 454 nominated songs written or recorded by Oklahomans.

Senator Mike Schulz said:

"We have an official state folk song and a state country song. With as many outstanding rock artists as we have in Oklahoma, it was time to recognize this music as well”.

The Flaming Lips’ victory came as a surprise to many after it beat ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, which was written by Oklahoma school teacher Mae Boren Axton, and famously recorded by Elvis Presley.
