The Mercurys: Le Sac Vs Duffy

It's Mercury Nominations day. We've compiled our shortlist - who's on yours? Plus: Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip come out and defend the award ceremony while hoping a certain songstress won't feature.
It’s Mercury nominations day, there’s been a slew of great albums released this year and the indie world waits with baited breath to see who gets picked out by the Mercury judges.
We caught up with Scroobius Pip to get a few words on the awards from him. Far from being cynical about it, he came out to declare his love for finding a gem amongst the shortlist and hoped Welsh warbler Duffy would be conspicuous by her absence.
“I always find a record through the Mercurys. There’s always one – who is Basquiat Strings? Oh, they’re really good! Look at the drummer’s big hair!
Pip was slightly less encouraging about sultry songstress Duffy, however
“I really wouldn’t want to see Duffy [On the list]. I really don’t think she’s done anything new. If she’s on it, you might as well get Cilla Black back”.
Listen to the full interview here.
So who do you think should be on the list? Let us know below. For what it’s worth, we’d be putting a sneaky fiver on the following:
Mystery Jets ‘21’
Foals ‘Antidotes’
Elbow ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’
Adele ‘19’
The Last Shadow Puppets ‘The Age Of The Understatelent
Lightspeed Chapion’ ‘Falling Off The Lavender Bridge
Neon Neon ‘Stainless Style’
Radiohead ‘In Rainbows
Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip ‘Angles’
And this year’s random jazz/classical album:
Neil Cowley Trio ‘Loud, Louder, Stop’
Don’t forget to check back at 11:30 when we get the full nominations from the awards ceremony.
