Pronounced as three repetitive sounds !!!’s defiance of convention extends way beyond their unusual nomenclature. Hear their brain-defying second outing here.
Formed one hot, Californian night in the summer of ’97, !!! mix up punk, funk and whatever else they can get their hands on that makes your ass shake. They’ve certainly got the manpower; the !!! line-up is currently seven strong and boasts job descriptions like ‘various electrical devices'.
This manpower is, however, split over two US coasts and such regular, long distance collaboration may go some way towards explaining 'Louden Up Now's unique sound, as the various members pass beats, riffs and loops around them to slowly build each track like a turnabout-tale.
'Me And Giuliani Down By The School Yard (A True Story)' was the first most of the UK had heard of !!! and it was greeted raptorously by fan and critic alike. A rattling beat that slowly climbs to a teeth-rattling crescendo is complemented by swathes of stoner guitar and Nic Offer's smooth-as-silk vocals. Elsewhere 'Pardon My Freedom' comes over like a tuned-down, funked-up 'Thriller' and 'The King's Weed' deploys the 'various electrical devices' to powerful effect.
